Call for Contributions: Listening for the Echoes Symposium

Istituto Marangoni London invites scholars, practitioners, and community members to contribute to the international online symposium “Listening for the Echoes: Heritage Knowledges to Shape Fashion and Design Futures,” scheduled for May 1, 2025. This symposium aims to explore sustainable practices in fashion and design through the lens of traditional ecological knowledge (TEK) and indigenous methodologies.

“Listening for the Echoes” seeks to examine how local and global cultural wisdom can inspire and inform sustainable practices in the creation of clothing, products, and artifacts. The symposium will address critical issues related to growth, neoliberalism, and technological reliance in the context of fashion and design, advocating for a return to more sustainable, human-centred technologies and methods that have been historically overlooked or undervalued.

Participants are invited to submit a 300-400 word abstract outlining their proposed presentation or activity. Deadline: February 15, 2025, by 17:00 UK time.
