Call for Participants: Practice-Based Fashion Research Network

The Practice-Based Fashion Research Network, funded by the AHRC and a collaborative effort between Northumbria University and Parsons School of Design, is seeking participants for a project spanning from September 2024 to July 2026. This initiative aims to explore the role of practice-based research within fashion studies and fashion practice as a tool for generating and disseminating knowledge.

The network aims to foster new connections between established and emerging researchers in the field through a sequence of activities including four workshops—two online and two in-person—a symposium, and an exhibition. These gatherings will explore various aspects of fashion practice such as design, curation, conservation, filmmaking, photography, and performances, highlighting their potential to inform and innovate the discipline.

Researchers who join the network will be expected to attend all scheduled workshops, contribute to an exhibition at Parsons to coincide with the fourth workshop, participate in a symposium at Northumbria University, and develop a book chapter about their research methods. This chapter will contribute to an edited volume intended for submission to Bloomsbury by June 2026.

Participants will receive a stipend of £1500 (GBP) to help cover the costs associated with their involvement in the project. Applicants are required to submit a 250-word description of the project they plan to undertake, five images of past or current practice, a 100-word biography, and a 2-page curriculum vitae.

Applications via email to practicebasedfashionresearchnetwork@northumbria.ac.uk by December 6, 2024.
